Veggie Gardens in the front yard
Ok I live in the suburbs of Baltimore, MD and the ONLY sunny area is in my front yard practically right in front of my house. I really want to work on a veggie garden with raised beds. Do you think this would be a problem? I couldn't afford to fence the area at first. The issue is that our 1/5 acre yard has several mature trees....and so do the neighbors on either side and the county property at the rear so we have a really good HIGH canopy that keeps us shaded. Great for my AC bill but bad for several veggies and aerial photos. Our shade is so nice that we have moss all over the entire yard, including the south side...everywhere but right in front of the house. I don't want it to look bad, I don't want issues with vandals (our house has been egged once) but I do want veggies that aren't just shade loving ones. Update on my landscaping gardening plans: Hubby is now on board with doing the yard in small doses. This is something new because he usually fights me tooth and nail with any home repairs/upgrades and getting him to cut the grass is killer. He likes my plan of trying to make it LESS work not more work. We had a productive work weekend getting rid of the killer kudzu (sp?) vines that are attacking from the county property. They have killed one tree though so that will have to come down. We now just have MANY MANY bushels of leaves that need to be composted, lots of little sticks and a whole bunch of vine that needs to be gotten rid of.
